Welcome Miss Marimar!

Picture
We are excited to have Maria del Mar join our teaching staff as a Lead Teacher in our Aftercare Program!

Maria del Mar was born and raised in Pereira, Colombia. She has a two year old son  who attends Primavera Preschool. She came to the US as an Au pair 4 years ago and since then she has been working with kids of different ages.

She loves nature and activities that involve natural materials. MariMar believes in order to make a better future we should teach our children how to love and respect mother nature. She also loves knitting and crochet.  She recently attended a Primitive Skills conference in South Carolina to focus on learning activities with natural dyes, tools, and projects.

Composting

Primavera is composting! We now have tumbler composting bin as well as individual class bins. Our snack and lunch leftovers will now become rich dirt for our garden. Miss MariMar is excited to begin a worm compost in the after-careprogram as well.

Dear Parents,
Happy November!  We have a month full of events and opportunities to get involved.

After-Care

We have had an exciting start to our extended care programs.  Maria Torres will be our "before-care" teacher from 8am-9am.  Andrea Torres and Maria Mejia (Miss MariMar) will be our "after-care" teachers from 1pm until 5:30 each day.  Andrea and Maria will teach finger knitting, explore dyes and textiles, play language learning games, read books and do art projects.  We also have Nikki Greenfield, who you may remember as our Auction announcer, teaching enrichment improv games and theater, and Maria Torres teaching Yoga.  Silvia is also going to teach cooking classes for our after-care program.

Please notify Carla and Misty of monthly enrollment changes of days/hours for extended care by the 21st of each month.  This enables us to make sure we have the appropriate number of staff. You will be invoiced for the upcoming month on the 1st of each month. If you'd like to have your child "drop-in", e-mail Misty and Carla to confirm availability.  Drop-in charges will be added to the next month's invoice.

We will not have extended care on November 7th, November 17th, or December 22nd.

Georgia Organics Collaboration

Primavera is excited to collaborate with the non-profit organization Georgia Organics.  We have scheduled a visit with Erin Croom, a Georgia Organics member, to explore the possibilities of being a model for Georgia Organics' Farm to Early Care initiative.  Georgia Organics  shares many of Primavera's goals and initiatives.  We are excited about the possibilities that our collaboration will provide.  If you are interested in joining us in attending meetings and creating goals for our collaboration, we'd love for you to join our committee.

Grant Committee

Primavera's Grant Committee goals include the following:  Teacher Training and Conference Participation, Student Scholarships, and Teacher Health Care.  We are also searching for grants that may provide educational resources in the areas of second language immersion, nature and play based learning, books and other educational learning materials.  If you have experience with writing grants and would like to assist our committee with grant writing, we are in need of grant writers. Our co-op option is available!

Fundraising and Auction Committee

Primavera's Fundraising and Auction Committee has planned it's first event. We will have a Book Fair sponsored by Barefoot Books on December 7th and 8th from 8:30-9:30 and 1:00 to 3:00pm. More details to come!  Take a look at their website:  https://www.barefootbooks.com/

Elizabeth Broderick has volunteered to chair a Spring Dinner in the Garden catered by our very own Chef Silvia Medrano-Edelstein.   Erica Gomez will chair our committee in hosting our 2nd Annual Auction on Saturday, March 10th at 7pm.  Mark your calendars!

Cultural Cooking Class

Our Dia de los Muertos Cooking Class was a beautiful event led by Chef Silvia.  We had many parent volunteers who worked hard to prepare a wonderful cooking experience for our children.  The children enjoyed learning making Marigold Biscuits representing the flowers from the Day of the Dead.  Chef Silvia also had a wonderful plating presentation using balsamic vinegar to make beautiful designs.  Chef Silvia topped the plate with edible colorful zinnia's from Primavera's garden.  It was a true community event!

Our next Cooking Class will be on November 15th celebrating the holiday Dutch Sinterklaas.  We are looking for more participation from our families.  If you can volunteer to read a book, share a Dutch tradition and/or item, or participate in our Cooking Class, please sign up on our Sign-Up Genius page:

Gardening Morning

Our Gardening Mornings have made a large and positive impact on our Garden.  They are also a great opportunity to mingle with other Primavera families.  You don't need a green thumb to participate.  Colleen Golden, our parent horticulturist, gives us plenty of advice and direction.  All are welcome!  Our next gardening morning in scheduled for November 11th from 9:30-11:30.  You can sign up using our Sign Up Genius:

Election Day

Tuesday, November 7th is Election Day.  There will be NO PRESCHOOL OR EXTENDED CARE on Tuesday, November 7th as we have a teacher training day scheduled.

Thanksgiving Break

Our Thanksgiving Break is November 24-28.  Primavera will be CLOSED on these days.
